Pumyra's return had delighted everyone, but gave the greatest relief to Bengali, who was still mourning until the moment she walked back into the lair. When Fuzzy contacted the lair with the news that the killer was being tracked down, she was the first to volunteer to help capture her murderer. Tygra was also chosen to go, as his experiences with forensic science would be helpful. They took the Thunderstrike, and Fuzzy left his police cycle at the lair.
Although Cheetara was soon due to deliver her child, Wilykat was still at the lair to assist, as he had assumed before Pumyra came back that this would be a job he would do. He was no midwife, but he was a healer. Practically.
Although Cheetara was soon due to deliver her child, Sumik was still at her room to assist, as she had assumed she would continue the trances, and since still no one else knew she was, this was a job he would do. He was no secretary, but he could keep the secrets. Practically.
Panthro was aware of the fact that she was still looking for her parents with the help of Sumik, but how, he did not know. By now, her visions were becoming shorter and shorter as she grew more and more tired by the day. And even when she wasn't tired, it was only minutes before her child would kick her back into reality, or her balance would be lost because of the weight her body now supported.
But still she tried, nearly every night, and as Lion-o had taken her off duty as the days and weeks had worn on, she would try occasionally in the mornings as well, even if Sumik could not be there to record her thoughts.
And finally - finally - after lunch, Sumik mentioned he had traded shifts with Wilykit, who needed off in the evening. Cheetara wanted to tell him why, but feared he may revoke the offer. They hurried to Cheetara's room, as fast as one who was with child could, at least. Sumik opened the blank book to a fresh page and grabbed a pen as he flopped onto her bed. "Anytime you're ready."
She nodded. "You don't think I obsess too much about this, do you?"
"Course you do." Sumik said. "But it's a good obsession to have. Best to have obtainable goals." he told her.
She padded to the middle of the room. She worried for only a moment about the baby, as she did each time she began the daily ritual. But since this had become a regular thing, the unborn child seemed to have become used to the whole ordeal.
She lifted her arms out to her sides and began to spin, round and round, faster and faster, until suddenly - she stopped.
The first time Sumik had seen her perform this act, he himself thought he would vomit from dizziness. By now he was used to it, even the earie voice she spoke in when she entered the trances barely bothered him now.
Her arms abruptly fell to her sides and her eyes snapped open. From here on out, Sumik knew to be silent. "I see..." she began.
"I see Thundera, many years ago. Claudus is lord, the planet is alive and well. My parents are Thundercats as I am.
"No. They are merely another lie, made up by Jaga. He is trying to cover something up.
"I see...my real father. A thunderian soldier in Jaga's army. Jaga is...tricking him to walk into the path of the projection of the opticrystal! He has sent him back in time thousands of years, before the opticrystal's existence! Jaga hopes my father will perish!
"I see...my mother, heavy with child, burdened with my birth. Jaga has come to her with a doctor, he promises to help her. But the birth is laborious, and she is tired. When she wakes he tells her I have died and she kills herself. With first her husband, and now her child gone, she can not bear the shame.
"I see an orphan, raised by false parents to do Jaga's will. An orphan who is to become the sword's new host. I see...myself. I am that orphan...and...and... "...and...
"I see no more." Her breathing had intensified, but she held herself from falling. "I need...try again..." she managed to get out.
"Is that really a good idea?" asked Sumik, still writing furiously.
She didn't answer, but instead repeated the motions again. Her arms fell, and the image appeared clearer than ever.
"I see my father, in a strange land. A land that isn't Thundera. It is the planet, but thunderians have yet to live there. It is home to the lunatak race before they were chased away back to the moons of plundaar.
"I am seeing through my father's eyes, under attack by a group of lunataks. He reveils himself - as one of them! His quise as a thunderian was a ploy, a mind trick he had been playing!
"I see Luna and Chilla. They are recruiting lunataks to take with them to go on a mission. My father enlists - he begs them to help him find his home, his time. They agree. But they are lying.
"I see the ship leaving Thundera. It travels to a moon of Plundaar, but most of the passengers are banished, they are outcasts of society, including my father, who knows no one.
"I see Lunsa boarding a vessel with Chilla and a few others, including my father. She had smuggled a wild lunatak - it is Amok. He wants badly to return to the forest he lived in, but Chilla threatens to kill him if he disobeys. The ship takes off and travels to Third Earth.
"I see Luna and Chilla making a deal with Mumm-ra, but both parties plan to break the bargain. The other lunataks are forced to do as Luna and Chilla tell them and destroy those who oppose Mumm-ra. They are told they are free agents, but when ever one tries to leave, they are tortured and killed. Finally, the deed is done, and Third Earth kneels before Mumm-ra.
"I see a battle, between the lunataks and Mumm-ra now. He kills many of them. Finally, he encases the few who are left in molten lava...Luna...Amok...Chilla...RedEye...TugMug....and...and....my....
The vision began to fade. Cheetara grasped for it, but could no longer hold on. "II see no more."
Sumik dropped the pad of paper and rushed over to help steady the cheetah. "You okay?"
"I'm not sure" she stammered. "Can I see what you"
"Hold on." Sumik helped Cheetara sink to the floor. He hurried to where he dropped the pad and retrieved it for her while she sat waiting, still half in a daze.
She read the last few words on the page, the short list of names that Sumik had written down for her.
"Can I do anything else for you?" When she shook her head he switched queries. "So is it who you thought it was?"
"Could you get Panthro for me?" she asked, concentrating on the list.
"Sure thing." The cougar ran to find Panthro, who was in the control room with Lion-o. He hesitated, knowing the lord had been against the idea of Cheetara knowing her father from the very beginning, but felt uncomfortable with waiting too long to get back to Cheetara.
The three men made their way back to her room, only to find it empty. Both the bed chambers and bathroom were vacant. Panthro picked up the pad of paper from the bed, then went back to the control room, the other two following him.
"You don't think she went to find him, do you?" asked Sumik.
"Unfortunately, I do." Panthro scanned the hanger using the sensors. "All the vehicles are there, except the Thunderstrike, and that's with Pumyra and Tygra."
"What about the cycle Fuzzy brought over?" asked Lion-o.
"Nope, that's gone." Confirmed Panthro.
"Too bad it's got an anti-scan chip in it. We'll have to scan for it manually, keep changing the frequency, hope she's not toggling it." Said Lion-o, looking now to the main screen that Sumik was concentrating on.
Sumik nodded. "Want to help me scan, Panthro?" Nothing. "Panthro?" Both he and Lion-o turned around, noticing the doors whooshing closed again to the room. Sumik was about to get up, but Lion-o put a hand on his shoulder. "Just do the scanning." He said.
"Who do you want me to scan for, Panthro or Cheetara?" he asked, just to be certain.
"Her." Said Lion-o, sitting down next to him.
Sumik nodded and watched on the screen as the Thundertank tore out of the hanger.
