Chanur's Arrival
Chapter 2
Day 4 : Well supplied with meat for the next day of so. Figured I'd go
out and take a look around my new home. Spent an hour camouflaging the
shelter. Good job if I do say so. At least it doesn't stick out anymore.
Strapped on the AP and the knife scabbard. Here goes nothing!
(Later, same day.)
Gods in feathers, what kind of a place is this???? First, I nearly
get sucked into a cave, fall off a bridge of light, and damn near drown
in a whirlpool! After dragging myself ashore, I'm nearby run through by
a unicorn! What's going on here???? That's it, I'm dragging my butt back
to camp. For once I'm glad for that shelter.......
(Later,)
......that was smashed flat by some kind of wide tread vehicle.
:::Sigh::: Maybe I did too good a job hiding it. There's signs of a
battle all over the place, scorched earth, trampled grass, even a small
amount of dried blood. Looks like I got lucky, though. Other then the
shelter, everything seems to be here. Even the med kit came through,
after I dig it out though. Whatever ran over it was heavy enough to
drive the steel case flush with the earth. The rest of the meat from
yesterday is gone too. I had been looking foreward to finishing it off
tonight. Oh well, nutrient packs it is. Spent an hour moving everything
deeper into the woods. I'll look for a new place, (Preferably off the
main path) tomorrow. Right now, I'm too tired. Didn't light a fire, for
fear of attracting any more attention. I've slept raw before, the cold
won't bother me. (much) While I was drifting off, I swear I saw
something fly overhead through a break in the cover. Looked vaguely
human, but i couldn't see much more.
DAY 5 : It's amazing how a nights sleep can help you put things in
perspective. I woke to the sound of insects humming in the grass. It was
that perfect time of the morning when the sun hits the dew just right.
The whole forrest looked like it was strewn with diamonds. I lay there
with my eyes half open, gazing at the beauty before me. Any planet that
can put on a show like this can't be all that bad. I rolled to my feet,
checking my weapons as I did so. Both the AP and the knife hung
securely. The woods were eerily quiet. It was the time when the
nocturnal hunters were bedding down, but before the daylight feeders
began their work in earnest. Feeling better, I moved away from camp to
relieve myself. A small pair of eyes peered at me from under a bush.
Breakfast!, I thought as I pounced. I'd aimed my claws just behind the
eyes and wasn't disappointed. It was a fair-sized rodent with long ears
and a white tail. A little gamey, but not bad roasted with some salt
from my pack. After my meal, the next thing was to find a new camp.
Hopefully, this shouldn't take too long.
(Much later, same day.)
Found a small box canyon about 10km from here. Looks like a good
place, it even has a small natural spring. It'll take two or three trips
to haul everything, but I think it will be worth it. Also saw in my
travels a white fortress with a cat's head in the distance. Come to
think of it, those two on the boards looked a little feline. Hmm......
