What happens if we miss a meeting
Every part of Scouting is optional. We don’t take attendance. Attend as many meetings / events as you are able.
If you are unable to attend a meeting where other Cub Scouts work on a piece of core badgework, this can be caught up at home, or at one of the campouts.
Can we attend a meeting to see what it is like before we join?
Yes. Please Complete a Request for information, and specify that you would like to attend a meeting to meet the pack before officially joining.
What is expected of me as an Adult?
The most important action you can take as an adult in scouting is to be present and engage with your child through their scouting experience.
Scouting runs on an army of Volunteers. A strong vibrant allows adults to engage in the growth and development of their youth.
More information can be found on our What is Expected of Me? page
What is the Cost of Scouting
The cost of scouting for the first year roughly $300, and breaks down as follows
$91 Scouting America + Sam Houston Area Council Annual Membership
$90 Uniform & Badges (Should last 2 years)
$20-50 / head for campout (twice per year)
Pack Dues - Amount varies per unit.
Overnight Experiences (e.g. Space Center Houston / HMNS) - Costs vary based upon the Vendor prices
Cub Scout Packs participating in fundraising activities (e.g. Popcorn Sales) to raise funds and reduce the cost of Scouting.
Scouting America aims to make Scouting accessible to all Children. Cost should never be a barrier to scouting.
If cost is the limiting factor, please contact the leadership of your local Cub Scout Pack and they will help your child to participate in Cub Scouting.
